Tierra del Fuego
The great island of the far south, shared by Chile and Argentina. Estancias, lenga forest and long roads.
Tierra del Fuego is reached from Punta Arenas by ferry across the Strait of Magellan. It is estancia country: sheep, lenga and ñirre forest, and very low population density.
Eating there follows a different logic from the city: fewer venues, more dependence on the estancia, on lamb, and on whatever the weather allowed that week. Distances make planning matter more than choice.
The Argentine portion of the island is outside THE WHOLE’s first coverage and will be added once there is verification on the ground.
